Cyborgs: Will Future Robots Replace Humans or Create a More Human-Friendly Environment?

On this planet, human beings are the only intelligent and self-aware creatures that exist. However, a significant number of experts are of the opinion that the creation of intelligent robots may result in significant shifts.

According to an NBC News article by a British futurologist named James Lovelockcyborgs will establish their own universe and humanity will eventually disappear from our planet. Lovelock, who just published the book Novacene, predicts that in the not-too-distant future, self-sufficient and self-aware cyborgs will be the descendants of modern robotics and artificial intelligence systems.

The Briton envisions a brand new era in which the administration of planet Earth will be carried out by various robots. However, his forecasts do not indicate that people and robots will engage in a deadly war, nor do they mean that humans and machines will merge.

James Lovelock examines this issue from the standpoint of biology. The computers of today are already able to process data much more quickly than we are, and Lovelock predicts that in the not-too-distant future, machines will become even more advanced and become millions of times smarter than humans.

In the end, cyborgs will be more intelligent than humans and will construct their own universe, one in which man will play a subservient position and may perhaps become obsolete. James Lovelock is of the opinion that cyborgs will be able to make the planet a more hospitable place for humans.

On the other hand, it is unknown at this time whether or not the new globe will continue to be hospitable to people. Lovelock envisions a world in which cyborgs have occupied every available evolutionary slot.

“I think of cyborgs as another kingdom of life. They will stand to us in much the same way as we ourselves, as a kingdom of animals, stand to plants.”

What might the appearance of a cyborg be like? Lovelock is purposefully ambiguous because he anticipates that they will rethink the fundamental principles of design in ways that we tiny humans are unable to fathom. In his book, he states that “Cyborgs would start again; like Alpha Zero, they would start from a blank slate.”

He suggests that they might have the shape of spheres, but when challenged, he says, “It’s entirely possible they would have no form at all.” He believes that they will mostly exist as virtual forms inside of computers.

It is also unknown how our human civilisation will come to an end; for example, whether it will be fragile and unable to adjust to new circumstances, or whether it will simply be wiped out by computers. According to the projections of a British futurologist, the arrival of the age of cyborgs will mark the end of life as we know it on Earth, which could take up to a billion years to occur.

When the conditions on Earth become unsuitable for the continued existence of artificial life, the machines that comprise it will leave and colonize another planet.
